Information Assurance Reform

posted 9 Aug 2010 06:22 by Martyn Croft   [ updated 9 Aug 2010 06:30 ]

Representatives from the voluntary and charitable sectors attended a workshop held at Cabinet Office on the 13th July 2010 to look at Information Assurance Reform.  An initial analysis has suggested the following principles to guide IA reform:

1. Reform to provide a more efficient, effective, and proactive approach to information risk management; providing value to the business, as well as reducing burden, and costs
2. Delivery IA that anticipates and enables new uses of information, technology and greater connectivity
3. An approach that will support public trust with clear metrics that enable benchmarking and implementation monitoring
4. Wherever possible, seek a consistent approach to developing IA capability
5. Build a culture where information risk management is mainstream; where staff at all levels value and clearly understand how to use information appropriately and their accountability for doing so
6. Coordinate existing work wherever possible and be accompanied by an implementation plan

Having spent the last three years building on the combined knowledge of security professionals from more than 60 charities, the Charities Security Forum is launching a mentoring scheme, where new and less experienced security professionals can turn to the more experienced professionals for help, advice and guidance.

The scheme will be launched publicly on

Thursday, 22nd July at an event hosted by Barclay Simpson, corporate governance recruitment.

In addition to launching the scheme we will be celebrating passing the milestone of 60 charity members.

As a member of the Charities Security Forum you are invited to the event,

starting at 6pm, at the offices of Barclay Simpson located at:
Hamilton House,
1 Temple Avenue,
Victoria Embankment,

This is our first evening event and a good opportunity for us all to meet and network with our peers in the charities. We are also inviting the great and the good from various areas of the information security world so come for an enjoyable evening!
